488. an intricate anitque Tekke torba
488. Provenance: Tekke tribe, Turkoman tribes, Turkmenistan/Central Asia
Age: Circa 1880
Size:
Condition: Generaly good for age, but it has been shortened at both ends & restitched. It is missing (as is ususal) it's plainweave back.
Notes: Wonderful, detailed, tight weaving for which the Tekkes are famed. Archaic, heraldic Turkoman design with Tekke minor gulls. Harmonious natural colours. This small 'torba' would have hung in a nomad's yurt (tent), and implements or clothes would have been stored in it.
