862. a noble old Afshar or Bakhtiari Persian rug
862. Provenance: Afshar or Bakhtiari (?), southern central Persia
Size: 147 x 200 cm
Age: circa 1950
Condition: Good.
Notes: As with many Bakhtiaris, the quality of the dyes used is first rate. The panelled design used in this piece is more reminiscent of Afshar tribal rugs, so it is probably that there has been some cultural and artistic (and perhaps physical) crossover with their neighbours. The colours used however, as well as the weave, confirm its Bakhtirari heritage. Elements that I especially like are the intricate main border and the luscious turquoise colour used.
