779. Provenance: Khorasan Province, Eastern Persia

Size: 350 x 272 cm

Age: circa 1900

Condition: Showing signs of heavy use, with overall low pile and areas of wear.

Notes: Despite it's high age and visible wear, this is still a beautiful piece of weaving. Grand, elegant, detailed and with a fine and harmonious palette. Khorasan means 'the land where the sun comes from', and this carpet does indeed shine. The colour scheme is classic Khorasan, with coolish mauve-tinted blues and reds, though this one is warmed by a subtle pale orange.
