660. a collector's antique Lori Pambak Caucasian rug
660. Provenance: Lori Pambak village, Kazak area, Armenia/Azerbaijan, The Caucasus
Age: Circa 1880
Size: 208 x 160 cm
Condition: Largely pretty good for its high age. Patches of wear, several re-weaves, heavy wear to the sides (new side cords)
Notes: Unususal in having only two large, hooked medallions (there are much more commonly three). The internal design of the medallions is also rare, and the turquoise blue is stunning. Well-spaced, uncrowded, tribal motifs as well as two human figures occupy the vivid (conchineal?) red field, and the blue border complements the sparcity of the whole with a relatively elaborate design. Such pieces are prized by collectors.
