891. a comely old Bakhtiari Persian rug
891. Provenance: Bakhtiari, southern/central Persia
Size: 203 x 137 cm
Age: Circa 1940
Condition: Very good.
Notes: A lovely and somewhat typical Bakhtiari village rug, employing a wide range of natural and vibrant dyestuffs in a curvilinear floral design. Bakhtiaris are a tribal group who now often weave within villages, rather than as herding nomads. Despite living in harsh environments, this tribe often feature florals in their works - dreaming perhaps of more verdant and lush places.
