797. a charming Bakhtiari Persian rug
797. Provenance: Bakhtiari tribe, south central Persia
Size: 160 x 223 cm
Age: circa 1940
Condition: Good with just evenly low pile.
Notes: A lovely piece that seems to have been inspired by French eighteenth centurey French palace carpets, particularly Aubussons. The quite life-like renditions of roses and other flowers featue in the main ground as well as both major and minor borders. The choice of colours and the quality of the natural dyes is excellent, and this raises this piece to a thing of beauty as well as an historical marker.
