644. a trandescendent antique Kazak Caucasian rug
644. Provenance: Bakhtiari tribe, southwestern Persia
Size: 390 x 163 cm
Age: Circa 1910
Condition: Generally pretty good for its age, though areas of heavier wear and some minor reweaves.
Notes: A wealth of fascinating tribal motifs make this an anthropoligist's woven dream! Superb colours, particularly the turquoise indigo, add the appeal. The substantial length means that the right space needs to be found, but this is a stunner. It shares much in appearance and feel with tribal rugs of the Caucasus, demonstrating that there is much cultural interflow of design, motifs & artistic forms.
