475. a remarkable Northwest Persian runner
475. Provenance: Heriz area, Northwest Persia
Size:
Age: Circa 1920
Condition: Good.
Notes: A runner, probably from the outlying rural areas of Heriz. Simple and almost naive in its design and execution, it exudes tribal charm, with strong primary colours and human figures, both male and female, as well as livestock. These northwest Persian tribal rugs share many features with their Caucasian cousins across the border in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia etc. The five joined medallions are especially spendid, as is the major border.
