412. Provenance: Ersari Turkoman tribe, Northern Afghanistan

Condition: Good for age, with evenly low pile.

Notes: The devil is in the detail with this Ersari Afghans. The same design has been woven for over 100 years, but this one ticks all the right boxes. The guls are large and well-spaced (not too crowded), the borders do not dominate, the colours are all natural and display lovely 'arbrush' (natural variation in tone), the weave is tight and even, and the wool (both pile and foundation) is glossy, oily, and the right balance between soft and wiry. This Afghan is around 100 years old.
